Rome is home to an estimated 13,000 different restaurants all ranging in size and variety of food offerings. With a seemingly endless number of places to enjoy a meal, I wanted to offer three recommendations near the Vatican City a tourist can enjoy without having to break the bank. 3 of the best inexpensive Italian restaurants near Vatican City are Pastaciutta, Panino Davino, and Pizza & Sandwich Da Pasquale.

1. Pastaciutta

  • 4.6 Stars
  • Location: Via delle Grazie, 5, 00193 Roma RM
  • Hours: 10:30 AM – 6:30 PM Daily

Pastaciutta is a delicious pasta restaurant with one of three locations on Via Delle Grazie. This restaurant offers fresh pasta prepared and ready to eat in 2 to 3 minutes after you order. Pastaciutta has 6 different traditional roman pasta dishes such as Carbonara, Cacio e Pepe, Pesto, and more. For only 6 euros, you can pick up a pasta dish to go and enjoy your meal in Saint Peter’s Square outside of Saint Peter’s Basilica.

2. Panino Davino

  • 4.8 Stars
  • Location: Via dei Gracchi, 11a, 00192 Roma RM
  • Hours: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Wednesday, 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM Thursday through Saturday, Closed on Sunday

Panino Davino is an incredible, small, family-run sandwich shop. It is perfect for a traveler looking for a traditional Roman meal for cheap. This secretive hole-in-the-wall restaurant offers a wide variety of paninis prepared with fresh ingredients. Prices for a sandwich range from 6 to 9 euros which are well worth the taste. My personal recommendation is the Ciro sandwich!

3. Pizza & Sandwich Da Pasquale

  • 4.8 Stars
  • Location: Via del Mascherino, 74, 00193 Roma RM
  • 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM Daily

Pizza & Sandwich Da Pasquale is a Trip Advisor favorite located near Vatican City. This is a must-stop restaurant if you are in the mood for an inexpensive slice of delicious pizza. Pasquale himself cooks the pizza for you and it is ready to be eaten in only a few minutes. Pizza & Sandwich Da Pasquale is a short walk from Vatican City. Make sure to stop by for a meal and say, “Ciao” to Pasquale when you arrive!

A day trip to see Vatican City is a must for any traveler. If you want unlimited access to public transport to and from Vatican City, make sure to check out the Roma Pass! This city card gives the user free access to the city’s public transportation system. Also included in this 48- or 72-hour pass is access to Rome’s top museums and experiences throughout the city. I would highly recommend it for your stay in Rome.

Ciao!
